Gathering organizational heritage
ACM Special Interest Groups (SIG), as well as other groupings within ACM such as the regions and committees, represent unique resources for chronicling the development of all aspects of computing through their membership activities, including support of leading conferences in their respective fields.
While the focus for most SIGs is on current and future aspects of the practice, SIGs are well-positioned to preserve and protect documentation that helps tell the full story of ACM’s leadership and contributions. The ACM History Committee has established the Heritage Project as a support mechanism for both for SIGs and for other groups within ACM to collect their histories.
The Heritage Project encompasses the following aspects
- History of organizations within ACM
- Timeline of the organization
- Toolbox
- Exemplars
- Links to the projects and pages for various organizations
